Sunday, October 12 marks a premier event. The Portland Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society, in conjuction with the local chapter of the Orchid Society, presents a new flower show of interest to the people of the greater Portland area.
Everyone thinks they know what orchids are. Well, there are a lot more varieties of orchids out there than that. Members of the Orchid Society will bring plants to show which demonstrate the beauty and variety of these plants.
Vireyas are tropical rhododendrons. They bloom in the fall as well as the spring. Many are fragrant, Many have vibrant colors. None are usually seen in the areas numerous garden centers, so this display will be something very unusual. The cultural needs of vireyas are similar to those of orchids, so these two groups can be grown in similar spaces in the home.
If this weren't enough, willing and knowledgeable experts for both types of plants will be on hand to answer your questions.
There will even be orchids and vireyas for sale. Now you can obtain your own extra special cheery plants for the otherwise gloomy, rainy days ahead this winter.
There is no admission charge for the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden for
this event.
There is no admission charge for the Show, which will be held at the Exhibition
Hall at the garden.
There will be a price for any plants that you decide to buy. In other words, only the purchases are not free.
