BARKing in the National Forests

presented by
Charlie Ferranti

(a statement by the speaker)

"I (Charlie Ferranti) will present a (hopefully) lighthearted look at some of the sillier justifications used by the Mt. Hood National Forest to log some of the remaining old-growth forests.

I am a volunteer with Bark, a local non-profit that "ground-truths" timber sales on the Mt. Hood National Forest.

I have had the opportunity to read the official publications on various timber sales and have been struck by some of the odder rationalizations that have been used, such as rhododendrons keep the forest from growing or that old-growth makes clearcuts look bad.

The talk should be equal parts giggles and groans which is the ratio to be expected when working with any govermental organization."
