NOVEMBER 20, 2003
program of the Portland Chapter of the
American Rhododendron Society
presents
Clint Smith
Once again we are pleased to have Clint Smith come down from Sumner, Washington
to be among us for the evening of November 20th. To refresh your memory, Clint
has devoted his life to the Species Rhododendron.
He has propagated and grown thousands of plants.
He has generously given years of support to the Rhododendron Species Foundation.
He has served as American Rhododendron Society Chapter vice-president for three
different chapters.
He has given over l60 programs.
He has led several European garden tours.
For these things his grateful comrades in the Rhododendron world have awarded
him two Bronze medals and a Silver.
Last year for us Clint did a memorable presentation on the plant explorer George
Forrest. This year, back by popular demand, he will enlighten us about Rhododendron
species, those wild-growing types that have contributed their genes to the hybrids
that grace our gardens today.
This is a particularly timely presentation, as it coincides with the annual
SPECIES AUCTION, which will be held directly following the program. So, having
been inspired by Clint, you will have the golden opportunity to actually return
home with some of these special plants.
