Reminiscences on some early rhododendron gardeners

Gwenn Bell Lives in Seattle, but is comming to Portland just for this program presentation. She has travelled all over the world in appreciation of rhododendrons.

Gwen Belll is an entertaining speaker and an expert on Halfdan Lem, a 'giant' in the development of rhododendrons in the US.

She will speak on the topic of the infamous Rum Dum Club, which had Lem as a prominent member. This informal group of early rhododendron afficionados developed many of the rhododendrons that are found in gardens all over the country. Find out about the growth of rhododendrons as a recognised ornamental plant in this country and the early days of the American Rhododendron Society
