The following book is one that the Portland Chapter had published and has available.
An illustrated history of the beautiful plant and
the people who have a passion for growing, collecting and hybridizing rhododendrons.
The story begins with its discovery in 1792 by Menzies on the shore of Puget
Sound and continues to the present.
It is about the extraordinary people who were so captivated
by this genus they devoted their lives to its introduction into the garden and
its improvement through hybridization.
Beautiful color pictures compliment the text. The book contains a list of West
Coast Hybridizers and a list of the West Coast hybrids and selected species
form.
"The Portland Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society is proud to
present this historical document to you, in hopes that it will further your
knowledge and enjoyment of our beautiful and beloved rhododendron."
Mike Stewart, President,
American Rhododendron Society (2003-2004)
