A dead pine tree stump in the yard that was never removed, 7” diameter at this point.
The area circled in pink is where the slime mold sporangea are located.
These small sporangia are almost invisible on the stump.
They spored on March 3, 2004
Each sporangium globe is around 0.8 millimeters in diameter
This myxomycete never shows its plasmodium unless it is cultured in the laboratory
My identification of this slime mold is extremely speculative.
If it is ever detected again, there will be an opportunity to identify it better.
